EDUCATION AND EVANGELISM

Adult FormationFormation for Adults is offered on Sunday mornings at 9:15 – with some added special programs throughout the year. The Vestry Liaison listed on the contact sheet would be interested in any offerings volunteers might wish to present, or in which folks might participate.

*Children’s Church – Each Sunday during the program year, we provide a special worship opportunity for our youngest members during our worship time. All materials are provided.  All that is needed are willing hands… and a little patience.

*Greeters – These individuals are at the front door each Sunday to make sure all are welcomed as they enter our church.  They give out bulletins to all, and information to visitors.

Library – Our parish library is located at the end of the long hall in the Education Building.  It is a welcoming space for parishioners to take out books for learning, or books for fun.  All ages are welcome to use our library.

Prayer Shawl Ministry – The members of this group knit and/or crochet shawls and blankets for distribution, after being blessed by our Rector, to those in need, to our High School graduates, and to our newborns.  The prayers of this congregation, as well as those of the individual who creates the shawl, permeate the fabric of these special gifts.

Preschool Board – St. Christopher’s Preschool is a wholly owned subsidiary of the church and is governed by a volunteer board.  Love for children and care for their education are good reasons to be part of this vital ministry. The board meets monthly.

Seminarian Lay Support Team – Every other year, we sponsor a Seminarian to learn ministry in context here at St. Christopher’s.  That individual has a support team of members of the Laity who work with them as they serve and learn.

*Shrinemont Parish Retreat – Each year, we take a weekend to retreat to the Diocesan Retreat Center at Shrinemont in the Shenandoah Mountains.  This is a safe, quiet, relaxing space to gather, learn, and breathe.  It is the home of our Diocesan Cathedral – the Cathedral Shrine of the Transfiguration – an open air shrine where we worship on Sunday morning. Scholarship monies for fees for the two nights and six meals are available. Speak to the Rector.

Thursday Women’s Discussion Group – This is a bible study for women that has been going on for over 35 years, here at St. Christopher’s.  They meet at 9:30 am for mid-week Eucharist, then have refreshments and intercessory prayer and study a passage of the bible.  The meeting usually ends by 11:30 am.
