10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Fountainhead Regional Park at beautiful Occoquan Reservoir, 10875 Hampton Rd. in Fairfax Station.

Hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend.  To help launch summer 2022, we’ve got a couple of neat activities. We’ll hold simultaneous events from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at Fountainhead Regional Park at beautiful Occoquan Reservoir, 10875 Hampton Rd. in Fairfax Station.

You can choose one of two adventures:

KAYAKING — At St. Christopher’s we’ve got Holy Hikers and Parish Pedalers (bikers).  Saturday, we’ll raise the curtain on a new group – “Parish Paddlers.”  We’ll rent kayaks and explore the lovely waters of the Occoquan. Rental cost: $16 for one hour. John Quinn leading.  If you’re driving, follow the park entrance road all the way to the bottom of the hill at the marina.  Loop around the marina, and about 50 yards uphill is a small parking lot.  Life preservers come with the rental and must be worn at all times.

HIKING — For those who prefer solid ground underfoot, we’ll hold a simultaneous Holy Hike on the nearby Bull Run-Occoquan Trail. We’ll walk an enriching 30 minutes out and 30 minutes back on a smooth, popular path through the forest that drops down to the water. Peggy Bradshaw leading. This is a neat trail.  It stretches about 18 miles from Fountainhead to Bull Run Regional Park in Manassas.  It follows the Occoquan River for a few miles before paralleling a tributary -- historic Bull Run. We’ll save the entire 18 miles for another day.  On Saturday, we’ll probably walk a total of 2-3 miles. If driving, follow the park entrance road downhill a few hundred yards and look for a large parking lot on the right.  (If you reach the marina, you’ve gone too far.) The Bull Run-Occoquan trailhead is located on the back of the large parking lot.  Avoid crossing the street – a trailhead across the street is for mountain bikes only; no hikers.  Our trailhead is on the parking lot side of the street.  Signs greet hikers at the Bull Run trail entrance.

For your convenience, we’ll carpool at 9:15 a.m. from St. Christopher’s lower lot. See you there! Contact: Jim Bradshaw at Jim.Bradshaw@cox.nethere.
