Welcome to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church

 From the Rector's Desk

A “behind the scenes” practice we engage in here at St. Christopher’s is how the ushers let the Celebrant at the Altar know how many people are present.  The ushers do this by filling out a small ticket which lets the priest know how many people there are and thus giving the clergy the chance to figure out how to parse out the bread so that there is enough for all.

Last Sunday as I presided at the 10:30a.m. service the ticket arrived as it does always when the bread is delivered to the altar.  On the ticket was the date, the time of the service , the number of parishioners present (108) and under the indication as to how many loaves of bread there were for use, the usher wrote: “a plethora.”  I loved that!

A plethora can also mean abundance.  Yes, we did, and usually do have enough bread at the table to feed all who come forward, and at the same time each and every person in the parish has a “plethora” of gifts; some utilized, some in discernment, and some still to be discovered.   As we come together this Sunday for our Annual Meeting and to vote in new members of the Vestry, I pray that the ensuing months following this meeting, and our Vestry Retreat that we can continue to decide just what gifts we have as individuals and discern how to bring those into use in this parish in order to benefit others. I welcome us all to this exciting time of exploration and discover, knowing full well that when we put our plethora of gifts in God’s hands, the abundance will over flow and bless many!

Peace,

Father Peter+
